  1. Dark Ocean Colors immediately comes to mind. They are evocative of Godley & Creme during the Ismism era. A few of the songs on their initial release (after breaking away from the Pillbugs) sound like they were left off 10cc’s “The Original Soundtrack” with their “Dream Away” sounding like the perfect mate to “I’m Not In Love”. Some might find it derivative but I find their sound refreshing and nostalgic. The reason they sound so much like 10cc is they recorded the album on analog equipment from the 1970s and used the same techniques pioneered by 10cc and Queen.

I am also ecstatic over David Mead’s “Dudes”. This release finds Mead introducing the audience to 12 male dudes. Each is unique and dealing with life or situations in a different manner from the others. Brilliantly crafted, Mead’s release reminds me at times of Paul Simon with a twist.

I also give two thumbs up to Miles Kane’s “Color Of The Trap” (he sounds like the reincarnation of Marc Bolan) and to Soul Engines’ “Closer Still”.

    Happy new year.

  2. Have you reviewed/considered Kassidy? They are a UK band and the album is called “Hope St.” It’s going to make my list this year. It’s an import only though.

  3. Radio Days, Bookends, and The Cry, which just came out, and would have made my Top Ten if I hadn’t done it last week. I’m going to throw The Cry into ’12’s mix.
