The Power Popaholic Interview: Linus of Hollywood

In case you missed it Linus of Hollywood has a new album out called “Something Good,” and we highly recommend it. I had a good long conversational styled interview with Linus about his career in music. He started with the band Size 14, to Nerf Herder, playing with Roger Manning, Jr. and other members of Jellyfish. It’s been over 8 years since his last album so we talk about some of the new songs too. Enjoy!

The Power Popaholic Interview: Martin Newell

Martin Newell is a poet, author, musician, gardener and general troublemaker. As the main singer/songwriter from the Cleaners From Venus, he self-released his albums on cassette and did his best to avoid the music industry while building a fan base, becoming an inspiration for many DIY musicians. Martin talks about some advice he got starting out, meeting and working with Andy Partridge (XTC) and his memories of the 1960′s.
I have such a good time chatting with Martin, I pull a Zelig and my own voice starts to unconsciously imitate his accent! Martin also has been adding funny promotional videos for his album “Return To Bohemia” called Mule TV. It’s obviously a Monty Python inspired video series with looney interviews with a tune thrown in.

The Power Popaholic Interview: Phil Ajjarapu

It’s an inspirational story of Phil almost dying to get this album made. I reviewed his album If It Makes You Feel Better back in March. And in case you forgot what it sounded like I embeded the favorite track below. But if you really want to know about Phil and this album… Here is his full story.

The Power Popaholic Interview: Terry Adams of NRBQ

Over the course of four decades, NRBQ (short for the New Rhythm and Blues Quartet) has done musical genres from power pop to barrel-house blues to free jazz. Terry Adams has been the constant, playing with a rotating set of musicians for decades. Even a bout of throat cancer in 2004 couldn’t slow him down, and after a short break he recovered and reformed the band in 2007. I was privileged to talk with Terry about the new NRBQ album “Brass Tacks” which is due for distribution on June 17. But you can get an advance copy here.
