MItch Friedman and L’Avventura Interviewed

After a long and tedious process I have migrated the interviews section to a new server. If you have any links to these interview pages, update them, as I have 2 new interviews. It’s always nice to speak with new bands.  I spoke with Jeff Davis from L’Avventura, one of the early bright spots of power pop this year. Read the review of the debut album “Your Star Was Shinning” here. You can read the interview with Jeff Davis of L’Avventura over here.

I got a lot of good information from a conversation with Mitch Friedman who’s album “Game Show Teeth” is proving to be a one of my quirky favorites to listen to. Mitch had a long list of music celebrity friends and great experiences, including a period in his life when he worked for Howard Stern! Read the interview here or click on the “Artists Interviews” button on the right column to see all the artist interviews. I plan to add the audio interviews to this section very soon.

More of Roger Manning and Brandon Schott

After our interview, Roger Manning has continued to tour the interview circuit promoting “Catnip Dynamite” and if you wanted to hear even more from him, Phil Andrews got some more in depth from Roger in his interview from Palo Alto Pop Overthrow. There us also an interview with Ricky Free from Blue Sky Secret, a great new pop talent.

Brandon Schott is an LA-based singer-songwriter who has beaten long odds and my friend at Too Poppy blog is very excited about a new series of FREE demo downloads that Brandon is making available on to the public. The first offering is a cover version of Bjork’s “All is full of love.” He’s also got a video too.

Read about it on the Too Poppy blog. You will want to visit the site on the 10th of every month to get a new song. Or you can just download “All is full of love” now.

Powerpopaholic interviews Roger Joseph Manning Jr.

Wow. A dream of mine since I started this blog was to interview Roger. As a founding member of power pop gods Jellyfish, Roger explains his musical process, his approach to songwriting and some of his attitude toward other musicians who are Jellyfish influenced. I made a big effort not to fawn and ask questions that fans would like to know. He also tells the story about a time touring with Beck that was unforgettable. This is a 30 minute interview, and it’s worth listening to.

Listen to The Roger Joseph Manning Jr. Interview

FYI: I bookended the interview with some of Roger’s best work, opening up with about 45 seconds of The Jellyfish track “The King Is Half Undressed” and closing with a sample of Catnip Dynamite’s “Down In Front.”

Powerpopaholic interviews Brian Kassan

I was very pleased to interview Brian Kassan of Chewy Marble recently. I ask him about his tenure on The Wondermints and a bunch of other issues. Check the interviews section on the right or click here to read the Brian Kassan Interview.

Willie Wisely interviews Roger Joseph Manning Jr.

The highly anticipated Roger Joseph Manning Jr. album “Catnip Dynamite” is expected to release Feb. 3 from Oglio Records. Those critics who heard the Japanese version last year added it to their 2008 “best of” list. If it’s half as good as I think it is, it will make my 2009 list easily. Here Willie Wisely (no slouch in the music dept.) interviews fellow artist Roger Manning (Part 1 of a 14 part series on YouTube).
