Tony Peluso, the lead guitarist with the Carpenters for 12 years has passed away June 5. He is best remembered on the 1972 power ballad “Goodbye to Love,” where he conceived and played the masterful, melodic solo and outro. This has long been my favorite Carpenters song and the solo never fails to bring back those painful teenage breakup memories. More on the songs history here.

Moldy Oldies: Dwight Twilley "Looking for the Magic"
One of my favorite Tulsa rockers with a classic. And yes Twilley is quite active, thank you. He’s covered in The Beatles, Rarities Volume One and Out Of The Box. All are quite good.
Girl in a Coma and Cheri Curri "Cherry Bomb"
At SXSW, my favorite grrl rock band Girl in A Coma performed “Cherry Bomb” with original Runaways member Cheri Curri. It’s about time The Runaways got their due in rock history, and with Girl In A Coma’s connection to Joan Jett’s label it made total sense. Check out the official movie version of the song.
Genesis "Turn It On Again" video
Behold Genesis at the peak of it’s musical powers – the band ruled the worlds of progressive pop and rock for most of the early eighties. Those opening synth chords sent shivers through your spine in jr. high school. The band was one of the last great supergroups, and every member had success in their later solo careers; especially Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. BTW, Hulu is posting a bunch of the bands vids – so check’em out. Congrats to Genesis for making the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today!
Moldy Oldies: Little River Band "Take It Easy On Me"
One of my favorite oldies tunes, full of those great 70’s guitar riffs and the hook on “it’s all up to you, but whatever you do… ” Little River Band was the first Aussie band to really enjoy sustained commercial success in the US. They had plenty of hits despite the wholesale change in it’s sound each year. Have you ever heard “Lonesome Loser” and “Reminiscing” and find it hard to believe it’s the same band?
