Singles and EPs: Kai Danzberg, Leafy Seadragon, Jollys, Tad Overbaugh, Air For Ants, Winston-Salem

Kai Danzberg (he knows all the right people) teams up with the queen of power pop Lisa Mychols for this awesome single.

Leafy Seadragon is like Florence + The Machine meeting Captain & Tennille, and the odd result is created by Allen Clapp (The Orange Peels) with Alison Faith Levy and Ray Newkirk. Very interesting!

The Jollys are a thick bass reverb-drenched rock group that sounds like you are literally in the garage inhaling the fumes. Great stuff here and it’s a FREE download.

Tad Overbaugh & the Late Arrivals are a 5-piece, heartland inspired, Rock ‘n’ Roll band from Boston, MA. Mixing their rock and classic country influences, driving down that highway of Americana, Alt-Country, and Southern-accented power-pop. Check out this FREE download!

We loved “Did You Know You’re Gold,” from Air for Ants. The remaining songs on their new EP Once Again with Feeling kind of wander around a bit, but we also really enjoyed “The Loner” and the gorgeous epic “CLG.” Excellent mood music. Amazon

Winston-Salem is a UK-based band in the proud tradition of classic folk-rock, power pop & alt-rock Americana. Think R.E.M mixed with a little Tom Petty. Single is out on Amazon

EP and Singles: Pat Buchanan, Clean Spill, Karla Kane, Armchair Oracles

Pat Buchanan is a mainstay of the Nashville music scene and was a founding member of the well-respected power pop group Idle Jets whose 1999 release Atomic Fireball garnered rave reviews. Pat’s new single “Sandbox” is a look back at Brian Wilson’s late ’60s state of mind.

Clean Spill is a Santa Barbara laid-back rock band that just pushes my buttons. These guys are literal beach boys; frontman Pat Curren’s dad is a world champion surfer, and he and bassist Geoff Shae, guitarist Cameron Crabtree, and drummer Charlie Fawcett can often be found out riding waves in between band practices. Get the full EP “Nothings On My Mind” on Amazon

The Armchair Oracles, Norway’s best-kept secret has a new single out! The band is Atle Skogrand (vocals/guitar), Jan Ove Engeset (bass), Charlie Wise (drums) and Bjorn Gamlem (guitar) and they’ve played at IPO festival, so you know they’re good! Get it on CD Baby | Amazon

Karla Kane is our final treat, an autumn gem written in England by Martin Newell (Cleaners from Venus)and performed/arranged in California by Karla and her pals; KC Bowman, Khoi Huynh, Bradley Skaught and Gina Sperinde. The song is being released in conjunction with the autumn issue of Big Stir Magazine (in which Kane interviews both Newell and Robyn Hitchcock).

Sunday Night Singles! Bob of The Pops, Timmy Sean, Andy Reed, Jay Stansfield, Bryan Estepa, The John Sally Ride

Bob of The Pops! Vol.3 – Robyn Gibson (The Junipers) gets better with each group of covers he delivers. Love all this, and it’s a FREE download. Get it now!

Timmy Sean is back with a pure power pop single sure to stay on my playlist all year long.

Andy Reed gives us a slow ballad, and it’s his first solo work this year.

Jay Stansfield hasn’t had an LP ready in a long time, but this new single is a little like Jason Falkner.

Aussie Bryan Estepa delivers a very sweet power-pop tune.  Can an album be far behind?

John Dunbar is back with his band The John Sally Ride and he offers some very sage advice. It’s a pep talk set to a catchy beat.

Singles Mostly: The Lunar Laugh, Willie Wisely, Air For Ants, Vegas For Randolph, The Dig

The Lunar Laugh (aka Jared Lekites and friends) dedicated this single to the memories of Pat DiNizio and Tom Petty. A great catchy chorus with a sweet slide guitar riff! Pure bliss.

Willie Wisely delivers a live studio session recorded live in a Laurel Canyon, with Dan Kalisher (guitar/pedal steel), Erik Kertes (bass), Mark Stepro (drums) and Ryan Perez-Daple (sax).

Air For Ants is a New York City indie rock band with ambient pop and jazz elements. Proof that some experimental pop can be damn catchy and full of pent-up emotion.

Vegas With Randolph‘s new LP Legs & Luggage is due out any day now — this is the awesome opening track. Plenty of fuzzy riffs you can dance to!

The Dig is another NYC indie-pop outfit with a two EPs out for 2018; Moonlight Baby & Afternoon With Caroline. A little synth and harmonies never hurt anyone right? They remind me of Sparks a little. Here is a track from them.

Friday Singles and Freebies: The Premiere of Faux Co! Vista Blue, Magic City, Ryan Allen, Reno Bo

Exclusive Premiere!

Chicago’s Faux Co. is the brainchild of songwriter Ben Mackey. Originally from Santa Rosa, California, Mackey has been writing 60’s influenced indie pop songs for a decade. This NEW single “Prozac Spaceman” is an exclusive Power Popaholic premiere. The core line-up of Faux Co is Ben Mackey, Trevor Pritchet and Chris Lee. This single has some great Rickenbacker strums and the melody flows along a catchy shaker beat. I can’t wait for the album!

The prolific Vista Blue is back with another great FREE downloadable album. This 6 song Ep contains much fun guitar crunchiness with a deep Beach Boys cut “It’s OK.”

Irish power popper Conor Lumsden from The Number Ones is Music City and here he’s playing every instrument on this A-Side ‘Pretty Feelings’ which sound like a lost Lindsey Buckingham track! Awesome! We want more Conor!

Ryan Allen and his Extra Arms are back and this advance track is just the start of his next release. This is a fantastic rocking track that just makes me salivate for the next song. Scream along and play air guitar to this one!

Reno Bo has some reflective ballads here to calm you after all that jumping around. Reno has a LOT of singles on his Bandcamp site, check out the Beatles cover and others.
