Randy Newman "In Defense of Our Country"

With a new president ready to take office, this video looks back on the Bush years. This song is like a sequel to “Political Science” shown below. Earlier this year I had to show the funniest Newman clip of all time from Family Guy (since removed) and Short People, so Newman’s latest “Harps and Angels” came out in August. The old man still got it.

Chris Von Sneidern documentary

One of the most common comments about all great power pop artists I’ve heard in interviews, is “if you’re such a musical genius, how come you’re not famous?” The point being that great musicians don’t do it for the fame or the money, but the compulsion to do what they love to do. This trailer for the documentary “Why Isn’t Chris von Sneidern Famous?” explores this subject in detail. Long time power pop fans have loved Chris’ work for years now, so to us powerpopaholics he has already “arrived” and I hope the film is more of a scathing indictment of the current entertainment press. I personally can’t wait to see this movie.

A moment of zen from "Animals"

Minilogue – Animals from ljudbilden on Vimeo.
Sometimes you just see a fun vid. And you wanna chill out – knowwhatimean? I love the animation and use of color here. Note: Do not take acid and watch this, you could see these “animals” come out of the computer and crawl all over you.

Another Steve Eggers demo

It’s really cool seeing Steve’s creative process. Like before, he plays the piano and gives us a song. This one’s called “Laura, Maybe She’s The One ” – Steve just finished a live set with MIke Viola at Joe’s Pub in NYC recently. Steve Eggers is working on new material for a digital only release in late 2008. A full Nines album is scheduled for Spring 2009.
