Halloween singles: Muse, Drool Brothers, Liteweight Champion, The Jack Rubies, Minky Starshine, Hidden Pictures

So I could not find a new Halloween video, but Muse certainly has a ton of horror movie references in their video of the single “You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween.” The Drool Brothers have a more traditional rocker, “Halloween Teen.” I also liked the dense melody of “Everyone is Wrong Most of the Time” by an Ohio band called Liteweight Champion. From our friends at Big Stir Records, we have The Jack Rubies with “Phantom,” with plenty of spooky vibes. I’m happy to report Minky Starshine is expected to return with a new LP, so here is the advance single “Our Father,” and Hidden Pictures turns up the twang for the gem “Hayward Hall of Justice.” The band’s sound very much reminds me of The Honeydogs. At last, a sentimental pop song by Alex Dominish and Carlos Morales that reminds me of how much I used to like a particular orange, white, and yellow colored treat. Enjoy the goodies, campers!

December Videos and Singles: The Kut, The Shang Hi Los, Rob Clarke, Green Seagull, Richard Öhrn, Andy Bopp, Hidden Pictures

The FIFA World Cup is a “thing” now that the USA beat Iran, but to me what kicks ass is The Kut with a badass guitar riff and a theme “Fun When You’re Winning.” When it comes to winning, it “Takes One To Know One” courtesy of The Shang Hi Los. It’s melodic hard rock at its finest. Then we calm down for Rob Clarke with “Tik Tok” which doesn’t appear to be about that social media app.

London-based Green Seagull is a retro-pop outfit, and “They’re Coming For You Barbara” is a wonderful Kinksian gem. Sweden’s Richard Öhrn gives us a  jangling “Take This Bottle” from his debut album Sounds in English. Andy Bopp has a new single too, and “King of the Day” is on a new compilation of his music remixed by Nick Bertling. Finally, Richard Gintowt (aka Hidden Pictures) releases the fuzzy guitar pop of “Randi.” Sweet!

Singles: The Jangle Band, Hidden Pictures and Angelo Celli

Some of my favorite free music downloads!

The Jangle Band – a new project by Joe Algeri, songwriter and producer from Perth, Western Australia. He is also a member of Jack & the Beanstalk, The Britannicas  and one listen explains the band name here. Joe teamed up with Jeff Baker and Ian Freeman at the 2015 In The Pines Music Festival to create the band. Heavily reminiscent of the member’s key B-band influences – Byrds, Beatles and Badfinger – the single is a chime and harmony festival typical of the group’s sound. A perfect start to your week its a FREE download, we can’t wait for a full album guys!

Hidden Pictures – one of our favorite bands from Oakland, CA have quietly released several great albums for a name your price download. 2012’s Rainbow Records made our top 10 list that year. These guys are just amazing, with clean crisp melodies — so just get this!

Angelo Celli – the lead singer from last years acclaimed band Bracket. Here it’s just a simple ukelele, I love the approach and writing here. If you liked his bands last album, then download the follow up single, “A Choke of Grief (Heart Hardened)” as it sounds like a bonus track from Hold Your Applause.
